Boxers are family dogs, and live well in the city, suburbans, or country. They need socialization to tolerate other dogs well, as they can become over-protective. Boxers are generally patient with smaller dogs but can be dominant with larger dogs of the same sex. These dogs have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, and police dogs.

Boxers have a very long puppyhood and adolescence, they do not fully mature until 2-3 years old. They need early training to help release their high energy.
