Basset hounds are medium size dogs with short legs and long ears. They have strong hunting instinct, and they use scent to chase the animal. They often difficult to obedience train, giving food as a reward will help tremendously. Persistency, consistency and patience are the keys to train a basset hound.
They might howl rather than bark as a way to communicate that something is wrong. They have tendency to overeat, overweight problem can be prevented by planned and careful feeding. Their long ears need regular cleaning to prevent ear infection.
